Colin Powell rules
A small, thoroughly overlooked news item made it’s way to Fox News last week, but not very far after that. I thought it should get a little more airtime, so here’s a short description. Apparently, no video was taken of the incident.
Colin Powell, making his way somewhere in Washington, was approached by an Iraqi reporting looking to stir up trouble.
The reporter asked, “Mr. Secretary, what do you have to say about that fact that recent studies show only 19% of American young people can find Bahgdad on a map.”
Without missing a step, without any anger in his voice, Secretary of State Powell replied, “Well, unfortunately for you, they’re all Marines.”
Sweet.

You need to add a line of pixels (or two) to Kim Jong Il’s flat-top.
Maybe there should be Colin Powell comic; but not with a lame name like Colin-man or Bad-Ass Colin.
Saturday Night Live once had a really funny mock-commercial about a new cerial called Super Colon Blow. You might remember it. Anyway, it reminds me of Colin Powell and his comic book. I agree that he should have one. I seriously believe he is the most interesting stateman in the last 40 years. MAybe Dr. Kissinger is the only guy slightly more interesting.
For situations where the Daisy-cutter bomb just isn’t big enough:
CNN article
Best acronym ever…
MOAB: Massive Ordnance Air Blast
That rules. Also, Mannion, can you please start using the “url” button and stop breaking my website tables… Thanks.
Even better, a dual-purpose acronym: Mother Of All Bombs. and oh-so-apropo to boot
I just read more about this bomb…If you are standing 3 miles away, the shock wave alone will still kill you.
Yesterday, I heard a radio story about some British troops who were parked near the Iraqi border when a group of Iraqi soldiers came along and tried to surrender to them. Of course, the British troops had to send them on their way, telling them that they weren’t actually at war yet.
What a sucky situation. You’re an Iraqi soldier: You don’t give a damn about fighting for Saddam, and you try and surrender just to save your ass, but you have no access to adequate news sources. You can’t surrender because it’s too early, you can’t go back, because you’re a dead-man as far as the Iraqi army is concerned, and you’re still at risk for being annihilated when the action DOES start. Myself, I’d just park myself about 50 feet away from the Brits and just wait.
Don’t know if this story was true or not, but in a few months we’ll probably find out.
First, let me say (and I’m sure you’ve heard this many times) — Chris — you got some serious skills man. I am humbled by your artistic ability.
Now that that’s out the way…
That Colin Powell … you wouldn’t think he’s a funny guy, but I was laughing all the way to the comment box when I read this post. I am a Pakistani that grew up in Saudi Arabia, so needless to say, I get a lot of crap from people that just have no idea about what tha heck is going on outside their county. I just want to say … I hope the Americans and the British get Saddam’s ass and shove a big MOAB up his you know what.
Lets have peace through education.
Dear Colin Powell:
Please come clean with the American people. Admit that George Bush had plans for invading Iraq way before 9/11, that the war was really about awarding reconstruction contracts to Haliburton and oil easment corridors through Afghanistan to major oil companies. War for profit is not a good idea for a nation that claims to believe in justice for all. The position Rumsfeld & Wolfenstein’s policies have put us in make us more vulnerabale to terrorism, not less, and they know and have admitted it in their documents.
George Bush is a liar and made jokes on national TV on several occasions about his willingness to be a king and a dictator. Now he wants to make the CIA/intelligence community his patsy for “missinforming” him the real status of iraq’s WMD (nonexistant) program. This man is a child, infantile in his unwillingness to accept responsibility for his criminal behavior against the people of iraq. He admitted in his state of the union speech that he still believes capturing saddam made it all worthwhile so nothing the CIA said or didn’t say would have made any difference. He just used 911 as an excuse.
George Bush Sr. said “Jeb is the smart one.” We the people can absolutely assume GWB calls his dad for advice whenever he has a problem (like hiring back his old cabinet) and is still trying to prove himself to the old man while fixing his mistakes. We know Bush Sr. is affiliated with the Carlyle group/Osama Bin Laden’s family. Is there any doubt that soap opera pathos in the whitehouse is leading our nation to destruction? And I’m not just talking militarily, but economically, and in the area of our own civil rights– the very freedoms that military volunteers are sworn to protect; why should they die to have essential liberties destroyed! “Homeland Security” (a CFR concept 10 years pre-911) is bullshit– fascist state is more like it.
Know that everything I said has been published or televised in the national media and is no secret to anyone who looks for it. For God’s sake save what’s left of your own reputation, refuse to lie or be browbeaten any further by your “commander in chief” who you know is not fit to be called either. The American people will thank you. May I suggest that you urge your colleague Ms. Rice to do the same. Resign if you must but show some integrity while you still can.
Sincerely,
thrival
