For some reason or another when this story came out it struck a nerve. It made think that this country was really going down the tubes…The court system didnt let me down this time.
I am glad you posted this. I was talking about how rediculous this was over lunch today. It is my favorite story in the news right now. I didn’t have a good link to an article like this thouhg, so I refrained from posting it.
I am also psyched that the courts are supporting what amounts to common sense in this case. The picture on the license exists so that you can be uniquely identified, hence the name “identification.” Allowing someone to take this picture under a veil is just like drawing a police sketch of a guy actually wearing a stocking over their head. What the fuck good is that?!
Religious freedom my ass. Might as well let her put lipstick on the edge of a her balled fist and let her talk to the police like a little hand puppet.
How does a photo inherently help license people to drive?
I realize that we’ve all gotten used to using the license as an ID, and the gov has gotten used to using this as a way of getting a photo of us should they have the need to put a mug-shot on TV…but really, what gives the government the right to leverage your driving priviledge with a photo?
The government has no more right to your photo than it does to a database of your DNA or fingerprints. We trade this privacy in order to be allowed to drive. What prevents the government from next requiring an photo ID just to buy food?
