more subway poetry
I wrote about this once before… Occasionally I am impressed by one of the poems on the subway “Poetry in Motion” boards. Sometimes, I’ll see one once or twice and never again. I hate that. For weeks now, I have been trying to find the text of one of these poems online. I googled and googled but never found it. Tonight, I was on a nearly empty train, and noticed this poem again. This time I took out a pen and paper and wrote it down. It’s called My Father, written by Yehuda Amichai - he’s a very famous Orthodox Jewish poet. I think he wrote everything in Hebrew. This one is definitely translated. Anyway, I hope you like it too:
My Father
by Yehuda Amichai
The memory of my father is wrapped up in
white paper, like sandwiches taken for a day at work.
Just as a magician takes towers and rabbits
out of his hat, he drew love from his small body,
and the rivers of his hands overflowed with good deeds.

I found this site while googling. You might notice that for some reason, this poem, My Father, is not there! I don’t know why. Strange, huh?
Good point. Why not include all of the poems, MTA?

I totally agree…This is the ONLY poem i’ve seen from that series that I actually like. i hate poetry that tries too hard.
