powerbook

After a long and grueling 4 months without it, my [very delicate] G4 Powerbook is finally operational again. I meant to post about this last week when it happened, but I forgot in all my excitement. Thanks goes to Joergen who was kind enough to lend his expertise and hardware and software to help make it all happen. The breakthrough was, of course, the purchase of a new 2.5″ hard drive. The IBM 48 GB drive I bought 2 years ago seems to be fucked in some way. The Powerbook had some trouble recognizing the new drive and then recognizing CD-Roms without a system installed, causing much grief. But, after Joergen booted it up from an external drive, we were able to get a fresh new OS X Jaguar installed. Right now, it doesn’t even have OS 9 on it at all. No classic mode, nothing. No OS 9. I love it. I actually do need to install it eventually, but only to run Director 8.5. I don’t feel like breaking down and buying Director MX, so I’ll have to suffer. (Unless someone want to lend it to me…)

Anyway, thank you Joergen… I can finally change the music on my iPod again.

A public thank-you to Joergen for taking the time to install my new hard drive back in October of last year. His ingenious solution to use a portable firewire hard drive housing to do the data transfer was one of the coolest and fastest solutions I’ve ever seen. Thanks man.
