shards o’ glass

Some of you may have seen the best anti-smoking ad ever last night during the SuperBowl. It was an awesome ad for a company that makes frozen ice pops filled with broken glass, called Shards o’ Glass. It’s pretty awesome what they did - they ran the commercial, set up an official website, and even a 1-800 number to answer your questions. The stuff is satyrical, and hysterical, and brilliant, and really drives home the message of how rediculous smoking is. All without making me want to kill myself. Awesome advertising.

See this line:

It was the most stupid commercial that I have ever seen in my life, I am 55 years old and as much advertising that I have seen in my life it really degrades all of the safety work that we are trying to teach our children these days. I realize that smoking is a bad thing,,,,but do you really think in your feeble little mind, that a frozen pop is any kind of a substitute for anything. I do believe you are undermining any attempt to keep our children safe by showing that kind of crap. You cannot believe in your heart of hearts that you shouldn’t be held responsible for any harm that comes from this if a child decides to try your product. If some one does get harmed by your suggestion I hope that you pay dearly with your pocketbooks.

are you guys kidding? do you not understand satire? obviously this company is not real…they do not really sell frozen pops with shards of glass in them anywhere. the point is that as awful as that would be if they ever did sell them is exactly as awful as selling cigarettes are. and also, the point that cigarette manufacturers say they aren’t gearing their product towards kids is as ludicrous as if a company like “shards o glass” claimed the same thing. c’mon people i thought the mainstream population was a little bit more intelligent than this. this commercial was brilliant!!!
