gameboy, psp, and a new, tiny ps2
Lik-Sang is a great website that has been selling mod chips and gaming accessories for years. many of their products come directly from China or Japan and aren’t available anywhere else in the US. Occasionally they’ll get in a little trouble for some mod chip or ROM copying device. They recently announced the availability of a sweet, sweet Gameboy Advance accessory. It’s a small, slightly larger than a normal game cartridge, cartridge that accepts compact flash cards. The GBA Movie Player has some software on it that can play MP3s, GB video files, game ROMS, including SNES ROMs, eBooks, and JPG photos on the Gameboy Advance. Thats pretty sweet. I love the idea of storing all of your games on one 256 MB compact flash card, and not carrying around all those cards. The best part of this, the GBA Movie Player is only $25. (no compact flash memory is included).

If you don’t have a Gameboy, like me, you might consider getting one, even though the new Playstation Portable is just around the corner. GB’s are now only $80, and is you know where to look, you can find a sweet limited edition Classic NES style one. Like here, at Circuit City.

Speaking of the PSP, there is now some super great video of some guy playing a bunch of games at a trade show. This looks like a killer, killer device. Sony recently announce plans to start supporting native MP3s (without stupid ATRAC conversion) on their electronics. If it holds up, the PSP should be able to natively play MP3s, video files, view photos, communicate wirelessly, and play sick, sick games. I am pretty psyched. Pre-order me one today.

One last item on the small and dope tip: Sony recently showed off a new, smaller Playstation 2 (similar to their original PSOne rerelease) that is so tiny and so dope, it should reinvigorate sales until the PS3 is ready in a few years - actually maybe the end of next year. Look how small this thing is.

Ah! I have the retro-NES version of the GBA and I’m in love with it. I wanted to get the GBA Movie Player for *cough* backup of my SNES games, but as I read more about it, it seemed like it only supports NES emulation for now. Maybe I read the wrong thing? Where does it say it also plays SNES roms?
I am also confused by this device’s ROM playing capabilities. Can anyone clarify this? Does it play GBA ROMs, NES ROMs, SNES ROMs, or all three. Please help. This will greatly impact my decision to buy or not.
I originally saw a post about its SNES ROM ability on Engadget (here) but realize now that there is no official description of this anywhere. I commented there as well. We’ll try to figure this out soon.
I think it actually is only for NES. I looked at the forums (here) and didn’t see anything except Famicon discussions and Famicon = NES right?
There’s a similar card called the Supercard (www.supercard.cn) that will do all of what the MoviePlayer will do and also play GBA ROMs.
Drop me an email - I know how to get it.
