iPod Photo

All the rumors were correct. Apple released their latest iPod revision today. The iPod Photo will have a 40 or 60 GB HD, a 65K color screen, and TV out via the headphone jack, 15 hour new battery life, syncs with iPhoto, and plays picture slideshows, with music… Bottom line: dope. But expensive. $599 for the 60GB version. ($499 for the 40) The 60 GB is also a little thicker than the current version. No video playback yet.

    That was frickin’ fast.

I just bought my 4G 40GB iPod three months ago. Now there’s a new one.

This should definitely take advantage of an obscure perk of iTunes. iTunes can display the album cover of whatever song you’re playing. They’ll do it automatically when you buy something through them but not when you rip a cd. So you have to go to Amazon and drag the image over for every album.

What’s holding back the video version, do you think? Hard disk space? Battery capacity? Screen size vs. keeping it small enough to carry easily?

And any word on when this may happen?

well, it might be a selling point for their next gen iPods. since now, only Apple’s iPod has photo viewing abilities. They still have lots of tricks up their sleeves

rob: ever tried to watch a divx on a slow computer? imagine something w/ the cpu of an ipod doing realtime video decompression..
hard disk space is there (40-60gb? that’s 10 full-res dvd’s). video is already at a lower res than current digicam photos, and would be a much better match to the ipod screen and tv out capabilities than a 5mpix still. methinks it’s the cpu.

cool blog dude. the already have the technology for video ipod or ipod video. Apple has movie trailers licensed on their site the next thing they need to do is get the copyright for the movies ( a secure encryption ).

Don’t worry about how fast they come out. My first iPOD only lasted 2 months before the glued in battery died. I’m going back to 8 track.
