chrisdiclerico.com comment moderation

Everything has gone smoothly so far, except for one minor issue. All comments are now being mederated by MoveableType and I CAN’T TURN IT OFF!!!! If you post a comment to anything and don’t see it right away, it’s because I have not yet approved it. It’s all part of aggressive comment spam monitoring, but […]

deep throat

91 year old, ex-FBI #2 guy, Mark Felt, revealed this week in Vanity Fair that he was Deep Throat, the mysterious informant/insider who was critical in breaking open the Watergate scandal during the Nixon Administration in 1974. The Washington post and Bob Woodward confirmed this fact earlier today, and Woodward (one of my favorite authors) […]

gris grimly

Gris Grimly is an absolutely AMAZING illustrator. He has a show at an NYC gallery called Animazing this month (actually it ended yesterday, but they assure me they’ll have his stuff up until Thursday). His style is a dark, macabre mix of fine pen and watercolor with such extraordinary detail and imagination. It looks as […]

the “summer of code”

Google announced a new program today called, the “Summer of Code.” In their neverending quest to outdo everyone, all the friggin time, Google will be offering $4500 awards to each student participant who successfully completes an open-source programming project with any one of the participating organizations. They’ll be accepting 200 students to start, I think, […]

revolver

Guy Ritchie’s third major movie, Revolver is set to release this coming fall in the US. There’s some chatter about the script not being as strong as his first two masterpieces, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, and Snatch. From the look of the new teaser trailer here on The Sun’s website, it is going […]

celine dion is bad

I mean really, really bad; Michael Jackson bad. Celine Dion sucks. She has retired about 7 times already. Why can’t she be gone, and stay gone. You MUST watch this video clip from an old concert of hers. I can barely believe this really exists. Seriously, doesn’t she have people to tell her this is […]

POOM!

The folks at Got Used (which is normally a college textbook store - go figure) bring us this highly addictive bouncing ball game called POOM! It has now taken about an hour of my life and is likely to take more and more. Very clever game design, and very satisfying when you get on a […]

homegrown video games

Soon we’ll all be making video games that completely suck. Thanks to a few new tools, homegrown games are getting closer to mainstream. It may be time for me to polish up some pixel art and get into the game.
The first is a brand new web-interfaces, PHP-based framework for creating a MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online […]

anakin switch ad

This is the nerdiest thing I’ve posted in a LONG time. Anakin Skywalker discussing his switch to the dark side in a faux Macintosh switch ad format is so much funnier than you would think. I swear.
I just punched myself in the mouth.

bape’s nigo

Pig Magazine is running a great interview with Nigo, the 32 year old founder/designer/promoter/DJ of ultra-exclusive, ultra-expensive A Bathing Ape street-wear clothing line from Japan. NYC now has a SoHo store, where sneakers run about $500. Bape is a phenomenon in Japan, mostly because Nigo is a marketing and promotions genius. He’s now also a […]

lizard attack

I just found out there is something funnier than a pet lizard attacking a newscaster’s crotch. It is the moment when that newscaster freaks completely out like a 7 year old girl so hard, he falls on the floor. I laughed out loud. You will too. Trust me on this one. Watch this now.

[thanks rob. […]

Beethoven MP3s for free from the BBC

The BBC Philharmonic will be performing all 9 of Beethoven’s symphonies and then BBC Radio will be posting the MP3s for everyone to download for free. That’s pretty great, and a fantastic opportunity to get acquainted with some of the best music ever composed. Symphonies 1 & 3 will be available Tuesday.

great creationism/evolution debate

Jason Kottke posted a series of great links last week following a back forth between some supposedly smart people discussion the merits of the theory of evolution. It starts on The Times Online, with Richard Dawkins article, Creationism: God’s gift to the ignorant, a discussion of the merits of scientific logic and the necessity of […]

children’s monster drawings, redone

Dave Devries is an artist with a great idea. He is taking monster drawings by young children, like the one below by Kimberly, and repainting them himself, in a really interesting, realistic way. Such a brilliant idea. Enjoy.

some hot girl news,

…because I’ve been leaning towards the nerdy lately. Thank god for The Superficial - I get all of my good hot girl gossip and nipple slips from one convenient location. For example:
It appears many sources have now confirmed that Jessica Simpson had sex with Bam Margera. It couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy. Bam […]

gauss rifle

I can’t wait […]

So much talk of movies lately, especially comic book adaptations, but let me indulge in some more for a little while longer. Some of you may not know that production on Superman Returns is finally underway, and Bryan Singer (The Usual Suspects, X-Men, X2) is directing. After so much past speculation and rumors, the choice […]

US Customs officers confiscated the weapons, and then LET HIM INTO THE […]

17 ton popsicle debacle

In a cartoonish turn of events, a poorly thought out marketing-promotion went completely awry yesterday in Union Square. As you can imagine, after the truck ride from New Jersey, the 24 foot tall, 17 1/2 ton popsicle, […]
