Avatar, The Last Airbender
Avatar, The Last Airbender is an unbelievably great new cartoon series on Nickelodeon, and the new number 1 Nick show for kids aged 5 - 11. New episodes are on each Friday night at 8pm est. Each episode reportedly costs $1 million, roughly double an episode of Spongebob and the quality in the writing, character development, and animation quality is totally apparent. The show is fantastic, though not quite bloody enough for me.
Basically, this is the story. (TV Tome has a great summary if you care to read it.) It’s an ancient Eastern culture, where elemental magic and martial arts are abundant. The world is divided into 4 nations: Air, Fire, Water, and Earth, each of which has special people known as “Benders” that can control the respective elements. Each generation has a single person from one of the nations called the Avatar that learns to control all 4 elements and keeps the peace between the nations. 100 years ago, the show’s main character Aang, an Airbender, was meant to be trained as the next Avatar, but was accidentally frozen for 100 years. In his absence, the world goes to war, led mostly by the nefarious Fire Nation, that torches and destroys everything in its path of world domination.
Two young friends, Katara (a novice Water Bender) and Sokka (a young warrior from the north) accidentally uncover Aang, and now travel with him on his quest to learn each of the elemental powers and bring peace to the land. They are accompanied by a 10,000lb flying buffalo called Appa, and a big-eared flying lemur named Momo. If I had kids, I’d MAKE them watch this. It is, by far, the best animated show written for an audience under 12 on TV.
Only 7 or 8 episodes have passed, all of which are now on my TiFaux, so you don’t even have much catching up to do. They are repeated all week long, as Nick is clearly milking the thing for all its worth. Anyway, you really need to see this show.

i was watching nickelodean casualy the other day, as ushual. im 17 by the way. anyway, i caught this show and loved it! ive been telling my friends to watch it with little success… at least im know im not the only person over 12 who likes this show.

I’ve seen this show. And unless you are a 12 year old Japanese boy suffering from Down Syndrome there is no reason to watch it.
You hate episode 3 but love this? C’mon dude.

Aang is so awesome and his little marble thing is sooooo cool!!! I wish i could airbend too. AHHHHHHHHH He is so cool, and so is Katara and her waterbending. I don’t understand why Sokka’s like not cool… and all the other characters are just as tight!!! I can’t wait till the next epesode!!!!!! “The Storm” epesode was the coolest. Each epesode keeps getting better and better!!!!!!!!!!
I love the show, I play softball and so I practise on some Fridays, and miss the show(I’m 14 going on 15 in a few weeks)I cant wait to see what happens on “The Storm” I missed it because of practise.

I’m from the Philippines, and nickelodeon’s only shown a “sneak preview” of the first two episodes, but i’ve already downloaded the rest of the episodes… and can’t wait to see the next one. I love how it’s a mix of japanese and chinese culture. I’m 17 and I don’t really think the show just concentrates on being meant for under 12 year olds. It always has this underlying meaning, having a lot to do with honor and respect towards others and elders, especially shown in The Storm. We finally get to know more about Prince Zuko too (my favorite character). I love the color of his eyes. I’m so damn anxious for the next episode!!! But damn, 1 million dollars an episode, it’s crazy.
The show is nice but, more over I´m interested in the mithology of it all, The bending and such, the elemental input. and if I were you I´d keep and eye on Zuko, I don´t think he will be after them forever, The Avatar must learn fire bending and what irany if Zuko were to teach him. Fallen Prince indeed. I believe that Zuko will finaly capture them and his honer will not be restored and so he helps then, This is what I believe they are trying to show Zuko as a teenage not a firebending monster, you can´t help but understand, A note if not for the resteration of his honer he´d have no reason for capturing the Avatar
At first, Inuyasha was my favorite show, but after Avatar came out it kind of bumped it. The fighting scenes are awesome, and I love conflict within characters and seeing them develop. We don’t have cable anymore though…anyone know good sites that’d tell me what happened in ‘The Storm’? I’ve been dying to see that!
For ages 5-11? Ha! I’m 15 and I absolutely luv luv luv it!(even though I’ve missed alot) The plot is great and so are the characters, their personalities, and the action scenes. There is also a good sense of culture in it all. Call me crazy, but Zuko’s gotta be my favorite character. I command you to watch this show!!!!

I am 13 years old and am in love with Avatar: The Last Airbender. I remember I first saw it when my little 8 year old sister called me into the Tv room explaining that she had a crush on this “Aang” character. I thought it would all be a load of silly little child episodes. To my surprise I immediately fell in love with it. I’m an anime extraordinaire and love every anime (Yes even the American Teen Titans which is so hated in many places). I can’t help it. The Avatar animation is beautiful. I love the eyes on all the characters, particularly Prince Zuko’s and Katara’s. (I’m sorry, I have a fascination with anime eyes, call me crazy) I’m glad that I’m not a complete loser since many other people older than me watch this show as well.
I am very happy over this. Anyway, if you haven’t seen Avatar yet, I suggest you watch it! It has a great plot with many twists and turns and many conflicts within the characters (particularly Prince Zuko). I give it 5/5 stars, go watch it!
I’m 15 and the show is brilliant. The plot, characters, and action packed adventures Aang and his friends have are so cool to watch. All the twists and turns the writers through in are also very cool.
Wow! I LOVE this show! i was suprised too, since I thought that it was aimed at a younger crowd. But I am 12 (soon to be 15!) and I love this show. I am currently waiting for the next season, which is due to premiere 2006
Hell, I’m 20 years old and I think the show is pretty cool. The first east and west animation fusion on TV that does it perfectly (Teen Titans is a close call, but no cigar.)

One of my classmates from my Kung Fu school created this show and I’m a big fan. If any of you are martial arts fans take a careful look at the fighting styles and weapons in the show. All the fighting movements are authentic Kung Fu movements.
The fire moves are based on Northern Shaolin (Bak Sil Lum).
The water moves are Tai Chi.
The air moves are Ba Gua.
The earth moves are Hung Gar.

I despise Japenese animation, and was reluctant to watch the first Avatar, but since the first episode, I fell in-love. I have watched the entire first season, and keep it on TiVo, and use live-wire to store all 12 on my laptop. I will definetly buy any DVDs realesed, and till death waych every season that’ll ever air (I’ll try atleast). The amazing plot, and awesome characters and character development can draw even the most prestegious anime critics at the first sylable.
I can’t speak for kids, but I’m 34 and I love this show!
I missed the first 6-7 episodes so I will definitely be looking at buying a DVD if it released…
Avatar, the Last Airbender is an amazing show. I am almost 18 and am completely hooked! The artwork is incredible, and because it’s American made there arn’t any cheesy dubs or me being ‘lost in translation’. This show squashes Teen Titans which has very little plot and the animation is hokey. I suggest if you haven’t seen this show, watch it. You’ll die a happier person.
Avatar is very awesome, one of the best animes I have ever seen, with a great plot line and character developement. It appeals to all ages, I should know, I’m fifteen -laughs-.
I wasn’t quite so sure about this one at first but after watching a few episodes i kinda like it. The story plot is woderfull which is what I’m always after, but the characters are a little immature for my taste.
If it was just a little more up to my age level i’d love it. I am 16 but a totall nerd so it’s not like i have to worry about my reputation falling by watching this. But i find it very entertaining, much to funny sometuimes ^_^

I’m 18 and I still love this show. It’s so sad that all my friends; all myf riends are laughing at me. But, I couldn’t care less. Anyhow, does anyone know why there are only 13 episodes so far? Has the season ended? And will there be a new season soon? Or… has Nick just cancelled this show, which I find odd because it get’s a lot of great reviews. Anyway, I’m very distraught right now and I need to know if Avatar will continue to be aired.

I’m 12 and I think this is an awsome show! I think the person that wrote that this show is for 5-11 year olds is WAY wrong. Sure a 5-11 can enjoy the show and like it but when your older you can understand the plot of this show even better. It might be just a show on Nickelodeon but the plot and writing of this is pretty intense.

HA! I’ll be sixteen in September and this is an excellent show. Sure, it’s not a true anime (so to speak) but it still has all those qualities. Nah, I don’t have any love fantasies about any character but I really like Zuko. The Storm and The Blue Spirit (which I finally got the chance to watch today) where my favorites. I look forward to the second book!

PRINCE ZUKO I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Now that that is said:I’m 13 and I absolutely ADORE this show.I wish I could marry Prince Zuko.In episode 12″The Storm” I burst out laughing when I found out he had hair.I think he looks alot better with the scar.Back to the show.The plotlines are intense,Drawings immacuteletly done,and the characters are involved.I mean Prince Zuko isn’t evil,he’s just a driven obsessed teenager wanting things to go back to normal.Katara isn’t just a goody two shoes,and Aang,even though’s he’s nice most of the time he can become angry when he wants to.The characters all have flaws so it’s not like some dumb cartoon where the hero is nice ALL THE TIME,and the villian is totally evil.Like I said before the plotlines are wonderful,they have something new around every corner,The animation is absolutely awesome,and The characters are complex beings with feelings and stuff like that.Once again:THIS SHOW TOTALLY ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!
Ok im 14 turnin 15 soon and just like most of the people here i love the avatar. my fav character is Zuko hes the kinda character u could feel for i like sokka to hes funny as hellu. My fav episode is probably the storm as well. Thast episode is sooo hot if u havent seen it i feel bad 4 u im on a softball team to thank god i neva have practices on friday i heard the new episodes wont come out until next year that sucks. Anyways i think Zuko will probably help aang learn firebending to and i hope katara and Zuko get together. I’m 18, and have watched all the episodes aired, I have the first 13 episodes transfered to my desktop. I’ve gotten lazy about it since i moved into a college dorm. But in my opinion this is the best cartoon on TV today (maybe neck and neck with Harvey Birdman and Space Ghost, but thats a different station).
The best character is Zuko’s uncle! I’m not sure if all of the 12>year olds understand all the humor, but its funny as heck.
Dude, I’m 22 and am a total adict to the show. It’s masterfully written with rich character development and interaction. The background is well layered so that the characters are much deeper than just the two dimensional characters found in much anime. And yes, the moves and weapons are taken right from actual kung fu, as I’ve seen many of them in class. It’s a beautiful mix of martial arts, magic, legend, political intreague and individual struggles. It’s definatly worth the time to check it out.

Ok, everyone… If you like this show, you will love SAMURAI CHAMPLOO!!! it is the same pretty much, the characters and stuff, but more serious but still hilarious. Although I love Avatar, I think that SC is a much better show. Fo Sho homies.

i still dont like the fruityness of it like the big eyes of aang. i must say zuko is the most inpirational character to draw besides saka. but i still dont like the exageration and cooky anime touch…otherwise its a greatly drawn show with a great concept.

Usually You can download episodes from Kazza, but I wouldn’t recommend doing that. You could get a lot of viruses into the P.C. So I would wait until they release Avatar on Video.

I think momo is cute and Appa not that cute prince Zuko is way past ugly and mean. i think Katara & Zuko should NOT be together. They hate each other i dont blame Katara.

Katara is soooooooooo cool! I love her water bending! (Even if Aang is way better) And I think Abby is right. Katara and Aang would make a good couple but Katara is older! And I always wanted more sisters instead of my little brother :P. Prince Zuko is ok. He’s not that cute but that’s just me. I think he has anger issues aand isn’t very lucky. Everyone else seems to love him! I think the last epesode about Prince Zuko tring to find the Avatar by the lady’s color-snifing monster that can smell a rat a continent away was funny! I’m hooked. I started watching this show with my four year old daughter and I can’t stop watching it. I save the shows on my DVR and my MediaCenter so I can save them to MPEG for later. Can’t wait to see the DVD’s. The story line is explosive with lots of feeling…. Mr. Z 38…

I never thought I’d like Avatar much since I’m such a diehard fan of true anime, you know, the kind from Japan? But, I really enjoy this show, and love to watch it whenever it comes on. It rocks muh socks.
You know what the really cool thing about this show is? The fact that each of the four nation’s “bending” styles are based off of real kung fu moves! I personally am trained in the one that is most like airbending

I’m 19 years old and I absolutly love this show. I love Asian culture, so this show was right up my alley! The characters, storylines and relationships are interesting. My favorite character is Zuko because you can tell that, underneath his tough act, he has a pure heart. I love all the episodes he’s in especially The Blue Spirit and Bato of the Water Tribe. I really hope he and Jun end up together because you can tell that they seem to have a lot in common (you know, being warriors and wanting to be in charge). I also can’t wait to see Zuko’s sister for the first time. Anyone know which episode it is. Also, if Jun and her don’t have huge parts in the story, I will be MAD!!!!

OMG! I know wut you mean about lovin asian culture! Im totally obsessed with the show! im fourteen, anyway, i don’t think jun has a big part, but i found out zula does! im trying to spread the word! first of all i found a full drawing scale of zula, as u know, she has a firenation clip in her hair. The wears a red sash around her waist and lower body, and instead of a belt, she has a thin strand of cloth. u must know, in the intro, when katara introduces the elements and the bending arts, each bender is Aang’s bending teacher, except for the airbender, that is Aang himself. But i compared Zula’s drawing to the firebender, and took pictures, my results…ZULA IS GOING TO TEACH AANG FIREBENDING! SHOCKING! GASP! AND AGAIN! GASP!
P.S. PRINCESS ZULA IS ZUKO’S SISTER, AND SHE WAS IN THE STORM! WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN? SHE WAS SITTING NEXT TO IROH IN THE AGNI KAI STADIUM! (YOU KNOW, THE EVIL LOOKING GIRL)
Avatar is awsome, i dont even watch much cartoons anymore but this show is cool, i myself write scripts and storys for different publishers producers and i have to tell you this cartoon has a great varrarity of things thats able to enspire anyone with an immagination, aang is has a good history adn character to him though out of my experiance he lacks varrarity, Zuko has great character and no flaws exept in perspective, he is suppose to be evil but when he wins he dosn’t finish the job, but all in all id have to say hes my favorate, Katara is sexy and has got great personality and character and is someone whom out of all others actuly learns from her mistakes (trust me if she was real i would date her), sokka is the only one that actuly has doubts about the mission and i give him alot of character for that, if you would like to more email me at degraswaldhiem@hotmail.com do not email me for reasons conserning celebritys…. i will not give them out and dont make me regret pasting my email address up.

For crying out loud, Aang is a HUNDRED - TWELVE yr old who is inlove w/ a 14 year old girl ( Katara ) But who freakin cares! OMG!!!! 1 mega-buck for every friggin episode. Let me just say IM 15 YEARS OLD, and the show is the ultimate !!! I mean it so friggin original…Amazing. Im hooked too (and so is my stepdad he’s 38!!) my 7 year old sister also watches it and so does my uncle(don’t know how old he is) and my cousins got shirts for the damn show….My mom promises to make costumes of the prince of the fire nation and aang for both my 4 year old brothers. I cannot explain how I feel when I see a new episode on Tv. sometimes it’s best to keep the phone handy since I recently had a seizure…

Wow. What a finale. I love this show to death. I sometimes feel weird loving a show that my friend (18) and her little brother (5) watch.. But she’s the one that got me to watch it when the second episode rolled around, and I go addicted. I’m 17 myself, and I don’t understand how younger kids understand it… I think they just see Appa and Momo, and know that water, air, rocks, and fire are being pushed around by “benders”. The story behind it though.. is so.. deep. I’ve caught myself crying during a few episodes. I’m glad I don’t have to watch it with someone younger, because it’s hard to explain why it makes you cry to a younger person without using the term “you’ll understand when you’re older”. To anyone who hasn’t looked into this show, please do so. I know it’s cartoons and a lot of people are turned off by that.. but if any cartoon, pick this one.
It’s also fun to sit here with my mom after each episode and explain what happened to her. She likes this show too (she’s 44) but it confuses her a lot, so I have to explain the whole thing after each episode.
My brother cole and I wacht this show every chanes we git .

Just picked up the first volume in the DVD release of this. I am utterly in love with Avatar. It’s such an amazing and thorough series… the level of attention the creators pay to detail is astounding. I should point out, I’m nearly 24 years old and have spent many hours in college studying film and television trends in relation to sociological issues. I feel I can say with confidence that Avatar is one of the best series on TV right now, animated or otherwise. I have met more adults who watch it than I have young children and pre-teens. One of my major gripes though is when people refer to it as “anime”. Avatar is not anime. It’s produced in Canada by Canadian writers and artists. It’s settings are based on locations and events in China, not Japan (well, alright, the fire nation shows some resemblance to Japan’s imperial days). Honestly, I don’t even believe the style is modeled much after anime in the way that many moderns western cartoons are (the most prevalent one coming to mind being that atrocity, Teen Titans… It breaks my heart that the producers of that took a really great comic book series and sold out to the otaku demographic by pandering to the shonen craze that’s dominated the media as of late). Aang bears some vague resemblance to Miyazaki’s creations, but his style is pretty westernized anyway. A message to the anime fans reading this: Just because a cartoon features martial arts and an eastern setting, it is not necessarily anime. Anime is, by definition, animations made and produced in Japan which adhere to a wide, but definite range of artistic styles.
But back to Avatar… a good friend of mine and I watched the season finale together when it aired and both of us agreed that it was one of the most cinematic, beautiful, touching television experiences either of us had ever seen. We’re both anticipating the premier of Book 2 this March with baited breath. Again, much kudos to the producers of this series. It’s about time Nickelodeon got back to their roots of quality, original, infinitely entertaining animated programming. Here’s hoping it’s a portent of things to come.
Zuko totally rocks! Ok…now that that’s out of the way, I’m in love with the show! Teen Titans is okay too, but Avatar is sooooooo much more awesome! teen titans is going to get cancelled but Avatar isn’t! Yay! Okay, that’s it. Bye ppl! I hope it’s Zuko and Katara^-^!
I despise most anime shows, no offense to anyone who likes them.
However, Avatar the Last Airbender is a great show! I started watching it a month ago, and now I’m hooked. I think that this show has an excellent storyline. There are great voice actors in this show. Adults could watch it too if there was more violence . Remember, they have to keep the show in the age group. Now for the pairings…
Katara and Zuko: It’s a romantic pairing for the soap opera people, but really not going to happen. I have a hunch that in the very end of the stories, they wont hate eachother anymore.
Aang and Katara: Something could happen when they get older, but on the other hand, Aang is the Avatar. He has responsibilitys and I honestly don’t think Katara would want to get in the way. I personally like this pairing!
Those are the main main pairings, however, I’ve heard of another one.
Jun and Iroh: Jun hates Iroh, Iroh likes Jun. Jun is evil and hates Iroh, need I say more? Not happening.
That’s my opinion anyway.
By the way, I took taekwondo and am going back. ( I had to stop because of track and feild). The fighting in this show is realistic, I would know.
This is a great show, I recommend it for everyone.
I took TKD, too, but left for reasons. My oppinion about Zuko and Katara is they’ll develope a friendship and she’ll end up healing his scar. or something like that. ^_^ It would be reeeaaallly cute!
I’ve watched about 5 episodes of the “Avatar, The last airbender.” I think its great! Im a 13 year old chinese kid, this morning i watched “The cave of 2 lovers” i cant wait to watch the episode after that, which i believe is: Return to Omashu. I reccomend anyone, absolutely anyone, of all ages to watch this. this is by far, the best animated series i have watched….. just watch you, you wont regret it unless you’re some loser.

Avatar is a wonderful show, even though many kids my age think that it is stupid and that some shows like “Lost” are better that it. But you have to remember that Lost is an adult show and Avatar is on Nickalodeon. But anyways, the animation is beautiful, the characters are orginal, and the plot of the story is very well done, in fact this show is so good…it dosn’t deserve to be on Nickalodeon with all those crap-filled shows like SpongeBob and Catscratch.
