nina gordon, straight outta compton
Nina Gordon founded Veruca Salt, and was the lead singer for all the songs you might remember from the early 90’s, including “Seether.” Veruca Salt is still around, but she’s not in it anymore. She recently released an album, Tonight And The Rest of My Life, on Warner Bros. My good friend Kathlene in LA probably creative directed the album art. She’s got a fantastic voice, and her new style shows it off better than before. I dig it very much. But, what really got my attention was a 2 minute cover song that you HAVE to hear.
This is Nina Gordon covering N.W.A.’s “Straight Outta Compton”. This is fantastic for so many reasons. A little bit funny, but once that wears off, you’ll just love this. This track and a lot of others are available to download from her “sights and sounds” area of her site.

If you like this cover as much a I do, you’ll be hoping and praying that guitar/folk covers of hardcore rap becomes a trend. You also might love Dynamite Hack’s cover of “Boyz in the Hood” and the ridiculously great cover of “Gin and Juice” by The Gourds. Unfortunately, you’ll need to find or buy those other two because I can’t find them for free download anywhere. Wink, wink.

Doubt it will become a trend because it didn’t in all the time since I first caught this track making the rounds on the internets, I think it was at least a year ago.
It’s funny how Cory routinely finds dead horse memes and puts them back into circulation when he’s not busy self-promoting.. but I do love my boingboing nonetheless. I love you Xeni.
That Gourds track is one of the best cover songs of all time. So, so good.
Yeah, I am glad you mentioned the Gourds, excellent band. I got into them from Gin and Juice, they do some others gangsta rap folk stuff to , like “No Diggity”
