Amazon.com using AJAX to sell bling

Amazon.com is using AJAX to create a clever little app for choosing diamonds of all things. (unfortunately, it’s not working in Safari) First of all, I had no idea Amazon sold diamonds. Who the fuck would buy a $20k diamond engagement ring from Amazon.com?? More importantly, this is a natural and clever (though admittedly specialized) fit for AJAX, and one of the first uses of AJAX I’ve seen in eCommerce. Expect a lot more of this in the next few months. Contrary to popular belief, Google isn’t the only company with clever little designers and programmers (thank god)…

Wow. This tool is really nice actually and web tools don’t usually tickle me too much. But I’m a utilitarian and this is a highly functional thing! It moves so smoothly and works very fast. I think I learned more about diamonds playing with that thing for five minutes than I have collectively over my whole life.

One of those things I learned is that my intial inner-excitement at learning that my girlfriend hates diamonds has now waned since the precious gems she prefers now seem far more expensive than the $1600 VS1, H .5 carat diamon I found using that tool.

Will my kicks in the ass never cease?
