technology bringing our childhood to life
I’ll acknowledge right now, that I am POSITIVE all these movies will be total shit. BUT, it is nice to see the things I loved as a child being important enough to spend millions of dollars to bring to life in my adulthood.
Alldumb.com has nerd handicam footage of the upcoming CG Transformers movie (IMDB), directed by none-other than the action-man himself, Michael Bay. It’s only in pre-production right now, and doesn’t yet have a title (I bet “Transformers” is high on the list though). Transformers was one of my all-time favorite cartoons (and toys), and I can’t wait to see a modern computer generated version of it. Remember this video? Awesome. How many times do you think Mr. Bay will pull his low angle circular fly-around shot on Optimus Prime?
Heroes in a Halfshell. You’ve got to be just a little excited for the 2007 release of a new CG version of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (IMDB). There’s really no information out there right now, except for this movie poster on IMDB. I am sure more details are soon to come. Ernie Reyes Jr. stunted/fought as Donatello (one of the turtles) in the original live action movie (not the voice, just the fighting), which I loved at the time, despite the fact the Corey Feldman played that same turtle for the non-action scenes. Then of course, that’s not nearly as bad as Vanilla Ice playing himself in TMNT 2, The Secret of the Ooze. Now that sucked. I have been TMNT fan since issue #2 of the Eastman and Laird comic book, and I still own it.
So you think that’s all? Well it’s not. Robot Chicken on Cartoon Network (hilarious by the way) recently did an phenomenal episode where Voltron “got served” and had a dance-off with an enormous alien. It was stunningly well-done and ridiculously funny. Well, it turns out that Robot Chicken is on the bleeding edge of what’s cool and nostalgic (the also recently did an episode where Optimus Prime died of colon cancer and transformed into a coffin. I nearly spit out my Vitamin Water). In any case, it looks like a Volton movie is also in pre-production, and I couldn’t be happier. I LOVED that show. Loved. Mike? Please vouch for me. The most exciting part of this barely-news item:
Costa and Oelman will executive produce, along with Pharrell Williams, one-half of the producing duo the Neptunes, who will score the film and produce the soundtrack.
OK, so that’s it for now. I HAVE to go to sleep. I just can’t wait for somebody to jump on a GI Joe live action script (which I’d be happy to write), or a live-action/CG version of Robotech.

a robotech live action would be the bee’s knees.
those macross motorcycle suits? awesome!
I wonder how Smurfs will look?
