Animaris Rhinoceros Transport
I have no idea how I missed this magnificent piece of art-engineering last year when it first made its rounds through the blogs. (Engadget ran it in September of 2004…) Sorry for being late to the party, but Wired is in the same boat, because they featured it this month as well.
The Animaris Rhinoceros Transport is the brilliant work of Dutch artist/engineer Theo Jansen. It’s 15 feet tall, weighs 2 tons, and is made to walk on its 12 legs by the wind, or the gentle push of the artist, or by a few school children with a rope. It is absolutely amazing.
I doubted the story a little bit too, when I first read the short Wired article. Then I Googled it, and watched this video, and nearly crapped my pants. Watch this video now.

I don’t know what this thing is, but i want one!!!!
Why is it we can construct a 15-foot tall, two-ton wind-or-school-children-powered rhinoceros transport, but we can’t save a few thousand poor black people in New Orleans and Mississippi and Alabama?
Go to Danger’s site. Do what he says.
I’m working on my own stupid post on the subject, but Bryan’s got it down.
