Okay. I also have an Ipod Video.... and yes it is great. When I convert videos to the iPod Movie/ iPod Video format, it has no sound. Is it meant to do this? If it is then that sucks. Answers to my question would be gr8ly appreciated!

With regards to ripping movies without subtitles. Use mactheripper to extract the movie only. The using handbrake on the subtitle box select none. I have a question my self if some one could answer it please. My ipod has not arrived yet. I have been using hand brake with the following settings. Codec=AVC/H.264/AAC Audio. Encoder=X264 Average bitrate=768 Sample rate(audio)=48000 biterate 128 picture setting 320x240. Does this work in practice. Loads of people speculate that this is the correct settings but I need to know that Handbrake is producing working movies. I would appreciate a confirmation or not.

Hey, I got my iPod video too and it is awesome! I rip DVDs with handbrake (no subtitle errors tho) and then I just put em on the iPod. Or I get episodes from Bittorent and then convert them in video2Go (which is also free like handbrake).

Yep mine came yesterday and I'm well impressed with it. Busy putting a few DVD's that I own on there and hopefully Apple will be quick to get full length movies onto the music store quickly. Its a bit more of a chore ripping and although I have a dual G5 i'd rather pay for them tha go through the rigmorole. Besides most of my DVD's are widescreen and you can't take advantage of the full 320X240 screen.

Anybody know how to get rid of the subtitles when using "handbrake" to rip original DVD's?

My video ipod arrives tomorrow Yeah! I could care less about the packaging, I throw that stuff away anyway. I spent the day loading iTunes with videos I have already on dvds. Handbrake works but it is slow, it takes 10 minutes to put one video on but iTunes downloads aren't exactly snappy either.

Size is one thing. Production value is another. While the new iPod comes in a smaller box with less inside, the package is on of Apple's most upscale to date, sporting full color photography of the iPod on an embossed (raised) area, plus a chrome foil stamp. All on a matte black background. There is nothing cheap about the box.

Tempting but I'm not going near one until there are some third party cases for it. I went from a 3G ipod to a 5G and the slimmer size meant it got all scratched up inside its own case.

How's the battery life, Chris?

the packing is pretty much identical to the nano packaging which is quite strange as this is there premium iPod. As packaging goes its still quite nice, has apple shot themselves in the foot by setting such a high standard for pack design in the past?

Am I the only one who thinks that new screen is just a little too big? Compared to your old iPod the proportions seem all wrong, which is a real pity because I love the new finish. Oh well, I guess it's a case of function over design.

Oh, and considering how the nano gets scratched so quick, I would get some sort case for that real soon.
