where babies come from
The Germans have it all figured out. Well, except for music and a handful of other things. They certainly have this “birds and the bees” thing nailed. In fact, the skipped right past the birds and the bees and jumped right to penis and vagina. This children’s book, Where babies Come From, is entirely in German, but after clicking through a few pages of brilliant illustration, you’ll see that the words don’t matter, and simple, clear pictures are worth way more than a thousand words. I particularly love this picture of the baby coming out, but man, the coitus picture is fantastic.
It all reminds me of the Everybody Poops series of children’s books we have in the country that are so popular. Of course, they originated elsewhere and where translated to English. I own Breasts, by Genichiro Yagyu is really great. I think this German book is better than all of them though.
Enjoy this learning experience.

HOLY SHIT! My mum gave me that exact book when I was a kid!
I never had a real dad worth a damn and I guess she was too nervous to give me the birds and the bees talk. So one day my mum hands this book to me and just says “You should read this.” Well it worked and for the first time in my life I realized that women didn’t crap babies out of their ass. Who knew there was another hole?
Thanks for digging up something I never thought I’d see again. Wow.
Hi! The original is in Danish, titled “Sådan får man et barn”, by Per H. Knudsen.
The German text really does add its own special flavor. I’d be curious to see the published English-language version.
