Jerryl Canon Rock. And the ‘Best of Google Video’

‘Jerryl Canon Rock’ is what this video is called. It’s on the Best of Google Video list linked from Totally Crap to a site that is run by I have no idea who. There’s no title, name, nothing. So whoever is responsible for that list, thanks. You’re awesome.

So basically, I thought this video was going to be a joke.
It wasn’t.
If this guy doesn’t get a thousand calls from a thousand bands, there really is no justice in the world.
Rock on.

There’s also a video at the top of that list that’s called ‘A Japanese Tradition’. It’s a strange, funny, and very endearing ’spoof’ of proper Japanese etiquette when eating sushi. It’s done so well, you don’t realize it’s a spoof for awhile.
Awesome.

    Oh. My. Goodness.

Finally a reason to turn up my new speakers! Makes you realise how much the charts these days is lacking!!

  2. Kevan said something

eeeh. I wasn’t that impressed- maybe if it was 1985. True though, there is nothing happening now either and I’m afraid thats the way its going to be from now on. Rock is dead.

  3. ken said something

yeah i was also wondering who this guy is. bang! He’s already all over the web.
I found his website here. He’s a taiwanese actually. The website has canon rock’s tabs sheet under “Interact” section.

I was impressed on that guy Jerry, the way he play it’s amazing, if anyone know what is the original name of song and artist please, let me know, I would be really happy. The song is quite amazing, it’s sounds like an classic song of an classic artist.. but haven’t found any clue yet.
I couldn’t contact Jerry to ask him about so if there is anyone who know that, please share… Thank you and best regards from Slovenia/Europe, Gasscoin.

Kevan - Rock will never die ! If you don’t like it, that’s different, so it’s dead for you, not for everyone…
    I say - Rock On !

OMG, this guy is AWESOME!!! Whoever yu are, Jerryl, come out and talk to the world. I’m sure you got over 1000 job offers from this one vid. MAKE MORE VIDS!!

    KICK ASS!

  7. Trevelyan said something

Do you guys think this is completely him? The music is great, yes…however, I’m not too sure it’s really him playing it. When watching the vid, you can clearly hear drums and a base in the background, which means this was played by a BAND. His fingerings are pretty accurate though…perhaps he’s playing along to a recording. I dunno, what do you guys think?

  8. Trevelyan said something

    I meant “bass” not “base”…pardon

  9. Pete said something

The song is called “Canon in D” the most famous piece from German composer Johann Pachelbel. The Pachelbel Canon is actually a very well-known tune and you’ll probably find it in ringtones, movies, wherever.

This guitar version is interesting and impressive.

  10. wil said something

Eh - I’m a big fan of metal wanking but this guy didn’t knock my socks off. Best of luck to him though.

  11. nt said something

Trevelyan…its obvious he’s playing over a recording, but it is DEFINITELY him playing the guitar

  12. Rob said something

Every night before we close the office, my secretary and I put on Pachelbel’s Canon improvised by Jerryl. Our day is not complete without this marvelous rendition of the 16th century choral piece.
    Please, Jerryl, do more.

  13. Andy said something

this is not his version far from it. its a copy of an yngwie malmsteen song look it up!

  14. John said something

Have you even HEARD the Malmsteen version? It’s completely different. This song was definately arranged by JerryC himself, just like he created the tab under his own name. Also it’s definately him playing line into his computer using his Line6 POD over the backing track which he also recorded himself.

Both this and the Malmsteen version are great covers of the classical peice.

His name is JerryC not Jerryl, and he has been all over the web for some time now. His site is http://www.jerryc.tw and you can check out all his other songs and the forum there. I believe he has already been contacted by KNAC

  29. Pwnedguitardude said something

That previous link to the funtwo version seems to be dead now, but it’s apparently the second most watched video on ‘youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QjA5faZF1A8
The sound quality has been lost a little on the youtube vid.
Most people in forums over the web seem to agree that the funtwo version is better than Jerry C’s on which it’s based.

Im gonna try and get a better bitrate one.

The whole canon rock thing has even made it to wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pachelbel’s_Canon

Sorry folks. This conversation has become less than useful. On the fine closing comment by Pwnedguitardude, you now have plenty of Jerry C resources to turn to. Thanks for the interest.
