apple changes everything

Literally everything. iPhone.

Iphone

- 3.5″ 320×480 multi-touch touchscreen interface
- OS X
- Quad-band GSM, EDGE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth
- 4 and 8GB
- 2MP Camera
- iTunes
- Video
- Widgets
- Coverflow
- Safari full web browsing
- iMap email from Yahoo
- Google Maps
- 11.6mm thick

Stock is up 8.5% and that’s just the beginning. This is truly unbelievable. This in an entirely new computing platform, not a cellphone. This is the Newton 2.0 and it is a BIG deal - for Apple stock, for Cingular stock, for the mobile computing market. Every other smartphone manufacturer now looks like they’re in the stone ages. This is the all-in-one device that the world has been asking for for many, many years. I am stunned. It’s almost perfect.

Wishlist:
- A 60GB version
- GPS

That’s it… Holy crap.

    And maybe a better camera.

erm, this really isn’t a smartphone, and it really doesn’t run osx. my windows mobile 5.0 SDA has a beautiful 2.5″ QVGA screen, 2GB of upgradable flash memory, google maps, opera web browser (to view full websites), video (TCPMP) that actually plays DIVX/XVID, quad-band GSM, EDGE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, music player, etc.

i mean, apple really isn’t doing anything really revolutionary here from a hardware standpoint. BUT, their software (multi-touch) and ipod interoperability is amazing.

i definitely won;t be getting a first generation iphone. but if they can offer an unlocked version (no way i am moving to cingular), up the storage (this is an ipod with phone capabilities after all), and decrease the price a bit, then i’m sold. by rev2 or rev3 in 2008, i’ll get one, but until then, i’ll let the early adopters deal with the shortcomings….

It doesn’t have GPS, but it can use cell tower positioning to do a rough equivalent, and I think that an interface for this is built into the Google Maps application that has been developed. I’m just sad that we don’t get them in Canada until the fall, and that I’m going to have to switch to Rogers to use it.

I can’t wait my hands on this device. I’m going to leave Verizon and I won’t look back. Okay, yes it’s expensive and doesn’t have enough storage. But, by the time it does have the features I want, it’ll be time to renew (plan and phone - to maybe another carrier by then.)

Yeah, it runs OS X. You may only be able to run a few apps & widgets from the plethora that your normal pc is able to. But, wait for it…six months is plenty of time to come up with installable widgets or add-ons if Apple feels like it or if there is a strong enough reaction/response from the public. Plus, wait’ll the program-savy users get a hold of it, I mean, it is a Mac. We’ve seen plenty iPod hacks. Oh boy, can’t wait.

You know what came to mind when the multi-touch screen was getting multi-touched? ‘Minority Report’ I whole heartedly believe the computers in that movie are all Macs, future versions, but Apples, every one. Can you imagine if Apple made an iMac 30″ Multi-touch! I’d put my tablet & current Mac on craigslist to pony up for that dream machine.

I have even more reason to despise the Winter months. They prevent June from getting here tomorrow. See you in line.

Someone will figure out how to unlock. Chris being one of them.

It would be nice if they went the nano route, and created a ‘dumbed down’ version of the iPhone, for much less cost.
Get rid of the Safari and email. Get rid of widgets and replace the buttons with other functions of the phone. Keep Google maps and iPod functions. Make it 2gig. Keep the camera, but don’t tie it to iPhoto/Aperture only (or get rid of the camera).

Give me the basic phone and iPod capabilities for $200-$300.

LG and Samsung phones made for the Korean market have already been doing what the iPhone promises to do for ages

Well, I guess it’s good that someone thought to start doing it here then, isn’t it?

Oh yeah, wouldn’t it be great to pick your ringtone from, say, the music in your library? That’d never happen. I’m sure a new iTunes will come out in June offering a new module for the purchase of ringtones. 99cents or more a pop.

Please could I just have a phone that has signal all the time, no matter where you are??

I have a digital camera, so I don’t need that function on my phone. I have a diary so I don’t need a calendar. I have a pc so I don’t need mail. Texts are just jokes everyone sends around anyways, never important life changing information. I don’t need GPS or tower positioning, as I’ve lived here all my life and know where I am most of the time. I also have three children so I never go out, therefore no worries of getting lost.

I just want a ringtone that is loud enough to allow me to find my phone in my handbag, and I have no clue what all that other crap is you are all on about.

What would be nice though, is if your call is not answered by the person you’re trying to contact, even though it’s in their pocket, if it could deliver a small electrical shock just to make sure that person never misses your call again! Hee hee, I’d like to see that happen to my husband when he’s sitting in the pub ignoring my calls!!
