Super DragAndGo
I haven’t been a big of a fan of Firefox as most of the world has become.
I still prefer Safari for usability, and FF has never really felt ‘Mac-like’ to me.
But as more and more useful (and sometimes not so useful, but fun) Extensions get written and improved for it, I find myself wanting to like it more.
There are certain things in Safari that I love, and certain things I feel I can’t live without. Such as the ability to go to the home page with the shortcut key combo Cmd+Shift+H. I hate having to click the Home button. Hate it. I know it may seem like a silly thing to get hung up on, but I’ve become very adept at using shortcut keys. My left thumb is forever hovering over the Cmd key. But I realized today that Firefox has a similar shortcut. Opt+Home (or Opt+fn+left arrow on my MacBook Pro). Nice. That’s one less thing I need to worry about.
This post is about an extension that I found today (maybe many or all of you know about it already). It’s called Super DragAndGo. It’s just brilliant.
I hardly ever just click a link. I find myself holding down the Cmd key while clicking to open up the link in a new tab (Did I mention that I don’t much care for the ‘back’ button, either?). For some reason, though, some pages don’t allow this. They’ll open the link in a new tab, but the page you’re opening the new tab link from will also follow that link. Two of the same page. So when I close the new tab, I’m still left with a window that I need to hit the ‘back’ button on (’Cmd+[’) to get back to my original content. ‘Why not just click the link normally, and hit the back button when you’re done’, you ask? If you have to ask, then you won’t understand. I had resorted to right-clicking and choosing ‘open link in a new tab’ (which seems to work fine), but the extra click isn’t fun for me. Yeah, I know. Shut up.
In steps Super DragAndGo to save the day.
Once installed the extension lets you click and drag any link to any blank spot on that same page, and it opens that link in a new tab. You can customize the extension to open the tab in the background or foreground. So good.
This is going to be one of those things that I won’t be able to live without.

Seems like a good idea, thanks. I can’t live without mouse gestures https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/39/ for opening a new tab or going back on a page.
I was going to post about mouse gestures too. I use the gestures in windows explorer even. not internet explorer, windows explorer. my most used one is hitting the right and then left buttons in quick succession to go back a page. you don’t even need to move the mouse.
third post about mouse gestures
all-in-one is a fantastic add-on
I just added the Pronto add on. It’s similar to a comparative shopping website. So if you’re shopping on bestbuy.com for a TV, Pronto will pop up with a dozen or so websites for you to compare prices. Pretty cool.
I also added the weather plug in which has a direct link to the weather channel.
I -HOPE- you are aware that clicking the scroll-wheel (middle-click) opens any link in a new tab without focus. It is the normal behavior of Firefox. Wait a second. You do know that the scroll wheel of your mouse clicks down also right? Maybe I don’t understand your problem, bu I don’t use any extension, but I definitely can’t live without middle-click.
Also, there is a Firefox setting that tells it to open all new window requests in a new tab. I can’t live without that either.
I wasn’t aware that what you describe works in both Firefox and Safari.
But there is a reason why I didn’t know.
I HATE clicking the middle mouse button. It feels so unnatural to me.
And I can never click it without accidentally scrolling it. I must be retarded or something.
I just think it’s awesome that I can drag a link and drop it in ANY blank area to open it in a tab. I haven’t touched my Cmd key since I installed this thing to open links. It’s awesome.
But I guess if you’re comfortable with clicking the wheel, it’s probably not as useful as it is for me.
