what’s in a name
I’ve always been pretty good at coming up with pet names. If I see a dog on the street, I can look at him and name him within 20 seconds, and most people seem to agree that is was a great name. It goes like this. Me: “See that dog? He should be called ‘Phineas.’” Friend: “Holy crap!”
Similarly, I am pretty good at URLs. I always think of great URLs that I think are obscure, but clear, clever, and meaningful. But of course, 99% of the time, they are already taken, 95% if the time but stupid placeholder sites with no meaningful purpose other than squatting. It is very frustrating.
I have wanted to rename this site for many years because “chrisdiclerico.com” is too much about me and not about my friends and the other people who contribute. It’s also very limiting if I wanted to expand what this site does. I recently went through the exercise of trying to find a good name, and came up very short. I was looking for something about thinking differently. I really like things like “unthunk” and “unthinking” and “thinklab” and many others.
In any case, all of the URLs are taken and mostly by shit. But it turned out that thinklab.com is actually the home of a pretty great photographer, Matt Daniels, so I thought I’d tell you the story and invite you to go check out his work.
Enjoy.

Ah, the wonders of vignetting.
I wish I had concepts that were original…
This guy’s awesome.
C - Inspire par le skateboard tag “sans nom” et le “concert sauvage dans le metro”, je propose “www.sansidee.com”. C’est ramassable.
