madness
I have quite a week and I don’t even have time to tell you about it because it isn’t ever yet.
Over the weekend I accidentally learned that my employee is closing the building they are currently housing me in, next week. But I am flying to NY tomorrow morning and planning to be there for 2 1/2 weeks. So that meant I had to fight, with some expert help, all week to avoid moving. But we lost, so at 8am this morning, I was packing all of my Dubai possessions with a few guys from Freightworks and moving from Bur Dubai to Diera. It’s a long story if you don’t know these places, but neither are particularly desirable places to live. My new apartment is very nice though, and the furniture is a far cry better than the Barbie stuff they had in the last one.
I didn’t get into the office until 1pm today and have been struggling ever since to wrap up the half million items currently in progress on this progress.
On top of this, the other night my cellphone charger stopped working. I know it is strange, but it won’t charge any phone. So my phone ran out of juice and I have been scrambling around town looking for a fucking Samsung compatible charger to no avail. I have 6 or 7 places to try tonight, before I go to my new home to unpack, to turn around and pack again for NY. I am definitely going to be up all night.
There’s no internet access in the new place yet, so this will be my last communication to the world before I hit the ground in NY for a “vacation.”
It’s not really a vacation. I am in town for a little over two weeks and I have to do the following while I’m there:
1. My 2006 taxes
2. A dermatologist appointment I haven’t made yet
3. A dentist appointment to fix my shattered teeth
4. Go to Gil and Jen’s wedding
5. Get drunk 14 times
6. Get high 14 times
7. Pack up all my earthly possessions collected over the last 34 years and packed away into 2000 sq feet over the last 9 years and move them out of Astoria and into storage. That’s right, the Astoria Den of Destruction is no more… Sad days.
8. Celebrate my sister’s 30th (May 13th, wish her well…)
9. Celebrate Mother’s Day
10. See Vik Muniz’s show at PS1
11. Entertain a Dubai friend who will also happen to be in NY for one of the weeks’ I am there
12. Process and upload hundreds of photos
13. See you all…
14. Oh dear god. I have to stop here and go now.
I’ll be in NY until May 18th. Call or write and make some time for me…

let’s see the the Vik Muniz show together before it closes.
Super happy you are coming to town.
15. Visit Witold.
This is going to sound odd… but you sound like my dad. He works 3months at a time in Dubai and when he comes back he has a list very similar to the above (only closer to geriatric and not so interesting). I just recently started using flickr to post photos and he’s not even able to view them thanks to his internet provider there. Do you have the same issue w/ flickr, or do you even care hehe. Enjoy the rest of your visit to NY and I hope the travels back are seamless.
