Avatars, the little digital representations of our likenesses, iconic, stylized, sometime clever, sometimes uncanny.

I love my Nintendo Wii, but I have never written about it yet. I suppose I have grandiose plans for a massive post about how it is the future of gaming even though it has the weakest hardware of the next-gen consoles. I fell in love with everything about it from the second I took that wiimote control in my hand and clicked A+B. As you might imagine, I also loved the Mii creation utility. I made Miis for many of my friends here in Dubai, right before they were convinced to run out and buy their own. (Will, Clare, and Mike all bought Wiis because of me…)

Then the other day a link went around the blogs with a cool little online game that is part of the Simpson’s Movie launch marketing where you create a Simpsons character of yourself using tools similar to the Wii.

Again and again this keeps happening, in Tiger Woods Golf for Wii, in The Godfather Blackhand Edition… Over and over I recreate myself for different games, different online presences. I used to have a GREAT one for Habbo Hotel, but that site is blocked here so I can’t login to screenshot it.

On top of all this, I have been doing this pixel art stuff for a while, and have drawn myself may times from scratch. THAT’s a really strange thing to do, draw yourself from memory. I can guarantee that you think you look completely different from what anyone else would think.

In any case, I thought some of these were pretty funny, so I would share them all, at least the ones I can gid up or get out the games. So here goes…

This is my Mii for the Wii. You can get it off your Wii and onto your mac using Mii Transfer:
Mii-Body

Here is my new Simpsons me. You can make your own at the Simpsons Movie site:
Simpsons Me

This is my best version of me for the masthead of this site:
Me Bust Lg

Here’s a little pixel me that I did in like 2001:
Chris

Some site called pixelcuties or something distributed a template to create a version of yourself with. This is mine:
Chris Pixecute

I just whipped out this quick sketch of myself on a sticky-note:
Me Sticky

There are many more. I just can’t find them all right now. Avatar fun.

Can you get on http://www.becomeanmm.com/ over there? I made the most kick-ass Jesse M&M ever! My work friends and I were obsessed for a solid month.

[...] I saw this over on Kelly’s website a few weeks ago, and asked her where she’d done it. Then, because I’m me, I forgot I’d asked her until I was reminded by a post over on ChrisDiClerico.Com. I finally went and did one, and there is the result. Scarily accurate, eh? [...]

If I were sitting with the Interpol mug shot artist, I’d have them start with the pixelated version. Overall, think less neck, no offense. Average them all together and you might have a likeness. [FINALLY, a mention of your Wii. Is there inventory of these in Dubai??]
