It’s not called “Bad Robot.” That’s just the name of JJ Abrams production company that also produces Lost and Alias. The trailer is showing before Transformers in the US and is incredible, but there is no title, only a date: Jan 18 2008. Rumors have it that there are many clues hidden around the internet and the codename for the project is “Cloverfield.” IMDB lists it as “Untitled JJ Abrams Project”. I don’t know much more than that except it looks fantastic and I am too lazy to hunt around the web scrounging information. I hope it is what it looks like, a whole Godzilla or other giant monster horror movie filmed completely with camcorders like the Blair Witch Project. If you hear anything cool, email me. Otherwise I’ll be waiting for it in January.

Cloverfield

FirstShowing has a writeup and a trailer. Apple has a high-rez trailer. AintItCoolNews has some interesting information. Google “Cloverfield JJ Abrams” for more.

The cinema verite style looks cool, but based on the trailer alone I predict a box-office turd. JJ Abrams is the master of getting the audience intrigued, then massively disappointing them with dumb ideas that go nowhere.

Plus, a January release date is never a good sign. If the studio was confident, it would come out Christmas Day. January and February are reserved for the studio’s bowel movements.
