budapesht

That’s how they say it. “Budapesht” even though hey spell it “pest”. Budapest. I snuck away to there last weekend for 5 days for a good friend’s wedding. A few people from Dubai were able to make it for the wedding and a few days of R&R. I took 1077 photos in 5 days. I posted 114 of them, making my unchanging shot-to-decent-photo ratio 10%. Quality through quantity. It’s sad really. (Currently all the photos are in one big Flickr set, but I plan to separate them a bit, at least to have the wedding itself in its own set. Just haven’t gotten around to it yet.)

Other than drinking heavily, attending the wedding, and changing lenses, I didn’t do much else.

Oh yeah, I almost got arrested. In a strip bar. Funny story. I’ll make it short. The girls lied about the price of drinks and sat around us ordering drinks for hours. Then delivered me and my friends a bill for 300,000 forients (about $2000). I refused to pay because they lied. They called the cops. 3 hours of patient (and quickly sober) negotiating and I eventually won. Paid only what we drank which was a still a hefty $600 or so, but it was worth it. 2 bouncers, 1 bartender, 6 strippers, 2 cops, all standing around me at the bar for 3 hours until 7am trying to scare me into paying the whole lot. Awesome. (Close one.)

OK, well, that’s all I got right now. Haven’t felt much like writing lately. Sorry for the lack of posts and quantity of videos. I’ll try to do better.

I read ‘budapesht’ as ‘bud ape shit’, half expecting a story to go along with how crazy Budapest is. Funny.

Serves you right for buying hookers drinks.

Cool pics, brought back some memories I have when I was there ages ago.

I see what you mean about the great sunset after the rain shots. Great colours.

Looks like everyone had a good time - apart from ‘the incident’. Would have been funny if you had photos from that night.

Nice blog. Too bad about Budapest. I lived there, loved it, and am sad to hear this site (pronounced “shite”) still happens. Once I refused to pay a restaurant bill, angered them by using some of my newly-acquired foul language (can they ever curse!), then the owner tried to choke me. Oh, good times…
