dominicalito
Hola.
Things are starting to shape up quite nicely here in Dominical. I have found a place to live more permanently than Tortilla Flats in town. It´s a small studio apartment overlooking the beach of Dominicalito (a smaller bay-beach right next to Dominical) about a mile walk from town. It´s only $300/month and the only real drawback is that I won´t have room there for visitors. It is brand new, with a nice refrigerator and air conditioning, both rarities around here. The view is spectacular and the area is cool as hell.
I´ve been looking into some vehicles too. We have some potential prospects for scooters but I might have a license issue. I THINK but am not sure that Costa Rica may enforce the same engine displacement rules as the US, which basically means that you can´t legally drive anything bigger then 50ccs without a motorcycle license, and I still don´t have a bloody motorcycle license. I also looked at a beautiful 1988 semi-restored Suzuki Samurai, which I love, for about $5000. Of course I can´t take that back to the states with me when I´m done here, so I´ll need to go through the hassle of selling it. Not sure if that is going to bite me in the ass badly. I´ll decide soon. The Samurai is gorgeous though.
Other than that, I have met a few cool people, some locals, some tourists. I met a couple from NY that turned out to work with our good friend Jay at the LA Sports club in the Upper East side. Crazy.
I have a tan already, and I know all the good spots for food and air conditioning. My hotel still has hundreds of ants, 3 spiders, 2 geckos, and a cockroach. I haven´t named them because I am afraid I´ll miss them too much when I move out. I have bee bitten hundreds of times by mosquitoes and maybe something else, so I am scratching my legs all the time.
In about an hour I am headed to a hidden waterfall and then to a telapia (sp?) fish farm where you fish for your own dinner and they cook it up traditional Costa Rican style.
That´s about it for now. I am officially ready for visitors, so email me when you´d like to come out. All are welcome.

Go for the 50cc. I have the feeling the samurai might kill you too fast, and the scooter is more fun, and plenty sufficient to get you around (and cheaper anyway).
I have this bike (225cc):

oh, I just got a brand spanking new Canon 40D as a trade for a small project with a 50mm 1.8 lens… a lot of machine… I hope I’ll grow into it right away.
