a bunch of new picts from Costa Rica

The last few weeks have been more hectic than usual. By “more hectic” I suppose I just mean, “I had some stuff to do, which is a hell of a lot more than nothing to do.” Both my sisters visited from NY. After a horrific ordeal trying to get out of San Jose (lost in the rain and dark without the slightest understanding of Spanish for 4 hours until we gave up and spent the night…) we had an amazing few days of relaxation, hiking, kayaking, horseriding, swimming, near-drowning, and photographing. Pretty good week I think, AND both of them made it back to NY alive and well.

As far as I am concerned, I am probably extending the trip for a few more weeks, planning now to head back in the middle of May. That will give me time to finally get to Panama, complete my scuba diving certification, and spend some quality time with some friends that are visiting from Dubai. I still haven’t learned to surf, but Spanish is getting better and I plan to take another fulltime week of classes. Scuba was going well until this weekend’s scheduled open-water dives were scrubbed because the swells got too big.

I took a bunch of photos since the last time I posted. Instead of subcategorizing everything, I have added about 50 new ones to the main Costa Rica 2008 photoset on Flickr. You can see everything so far there. Here are some of the new highlights.

There are some more shots like this one of 12 foot crocodiles as captured from above on a bridge over the Rio Tarcoles, often referred to as “Crocodile Bridge.”

Here is one of the many Halloween Crabs we catch nightly climbing in and out of our house.

Here are some shots of capuchin monkeys we saw in our hike in Hacienda Baru. I kind of fucked up most of the pictures accidentally (long story) but these are the best of the bad.

Here’s a gorgeous little poison dart frog our guide found for us near the waterfall.

And here is another brilliant sunset in Dominical.

OK, well that’s it for now. All the picts can be found in this photoset on Flickr. Hope you enjoy.

c, your loyal readers stop by to read your long stories. particularly those that feature mayhem, bungling and mortality. someday i must tell you of a night spent in a ditch crawling distance from exit 9 of the NJTurnpike.
