pork and beans and internet memes

Weezer’s latest video for their song Pork and Beans is chocked full of internet superstars, many of whom I’ve linked to in the past, all of whom can be found throughout YouTube. Hilarious and recent-nestalgic (if something can be nostalgic after only a few months) this video is a must-watch for anyone that laughs at […]

beatles covers

It’s been a fun Beatles cover morning for me. First, you should have a look as ukulele phenom Jake Shimabukuro performing “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” on Conan. This guy is simply brilliant. I wrote about his original YouTube video once before. I guess Conan liked it to. I also have some trouble spelling ukulele/ukelele. […]

bright eyes

While I was away in Dubai I had opposite forces of pop culture pulling at me. On one side, there was the ever present influence of British culture and music which opened my ears to some new-ish artists I might never had heard in NY. We’ll talk about some of them another time. On the […]

indian sweet child o’ mine

This version of Guns & Roses Sweet Child O’ Mine performed by Indians with electric sitars is amazing. That song really holds up, still one of my all-time favorites.

conan o’brien rocks out with rock band

Conan O’Brien has started up new shows this week despite the continued writer’s strike. In this clip he shows how the staff passes time playing Rock Band and how he plays along with a real guitar. I am still and forever partial to Kenny Muhammad, especially this semi-famous performance at Columbia University.

Mad skillz yo.

the miscombobulation of lauryn hill

Where has the young, beautiful and talented Miss Lauryn Hill gone?
I didn’t write about it at the time, but a few months ago Lauryn Hill played here in Dubai and I had the unique pain of attending the concert. After several hours of delay due to throat illness or soreness or something, she came out […]

ipod day

I rarely comment on this blog about new Apple product announcements. There are hundreds of sites that do it better than I could, and even though I geek out about this stuff, I don’t find it all that interesting to write about.
This morning, US pacific time was another Apple “special event” dubbed “The Beat Goes […]

tik tik taktaka

Finally, western culture has completely infiltrated the Arab world. We’ve won. Or lost. I’m not sure. Tik Tik Taktaka will confuse you too.

dogfight for zune

Here’s a pretty great animated advertisement for Microsoft’s Zune (that’s a music player thing) called “Dogfight”. It was done by a company called FullTank. (Here’s interview with them about the Zune Arts Films.)

I wish it was an ad for a new game on XBox because I would buy it tomorrow. Nice work.
