YNGWIE MALMSTEEN Threatens To Kill Passenger On Flight - Dec. 9, 2002
YNGWIE MALMSTEEN threatened to kill a fellow passenger on a flight to Tokyo, Japan after the woman poured a glassful of water on the guitarist. The passenger, who had no prior contact with Yngwie, allegedly overheard Malmsteen making derogatory comments about homosexuals and decided to show her disapproval by emptying the contents of her glass on the hefty axeman.
A member of Yngwie’s touring entourage, who was traveling with Malmsteen at the time, had a tape recorder running and managed to catch Yngwie’s reaction on tape immediately after the guitarist was “assaulted” by the offended passenger.

In case you’re not familiar with Yngwie, though I am sure most of my idiot friends who know every piece of 80’s rock minutia could write a 4 page bio of this guy themselves, here’s a great little history of his career.

What would be really great if his “contemporaries”, (can you have contemporaries if you are 2 decades behind the times?) gave comments to the media about the accident. Nothing would be better than turning on the evening news to find this washed up loser being critized by the likes of Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert or Marty Friedman.

Mitchell- I can’t believe you names all those guitarists! Marty Friedman is actually a friend of mine. He’s from Hawaii, a few years older, but I knew him from back then. Vai is the only guy doing anything worth listening too.
I first heard of Malmsteen in the early 80’s from a TV commercial selling his music (prolly on MTV). It was like a rock and roll version of “Zamfir and his magical pan flute”. Just that corny.
He probably took to TV to sell his crap because he couldn’t sell them otherwise. I’ve always thought of him as a joke. His ego was so large, he could not wait for his own reputation to actually precede him.
Rich, of course I know who they are: (a) I play guitar, probably not as well as some people who live in our part of town or who are on site, but I do play, (b) I was in my early teens when the shred thing was big and (c) I read a lot of guitar magazines back then. On the one hand, I respect the fact that those guys can really play, on the other hand, they rarely write songs worth listenting to. I remember when Vinny Moore opened for Rush, all he did was solo for his 45 minute set to the delight of the crowd who shouted “vinny no more”.
I do like Satriani’s Surfing with the Alien albulm and the albulm after that. He actually tries to write songs.
P.S. wasn’t friedman in Megadeath for a while, after his stint with Jason Becker in Cacopohny?

Marty played with Megadeath. Becker went to play with David Lee Roth, got some terminal illness and died. A old friend of mine used to play keyboards for Vinny Moore. Jordan Rudes? Sick sick guy. Julliard when he was 8, perfect pitch, rips Chopin with chops of death. I used to tease him all the time about it. Satriani was definitely paradigm shifting for the whole shred crowd. He actually did some cool shit as opposed to the whole Gilbert, Impelliteri, Gambale-thing. Which was lame. Fun to play though. Zakk Wylde still rules.

Was Jason Becker the one with terminal illness, I thought that was Blues Sarceno (sp?)- another 16 year old shredder-type. Regardless, have you seen zakk wylde on the Osbournes, he got BIG and dirty. Still sounds good. He was like 19 when he first toured with Ozzy. The guitarist from the Chili Peppers was about 18. Can you imagine touring at 18? (mind wanders to a happy place…)

Becker’s dead. He was a Mormon and my cousin knew him through their church. Paul Gilbert was the guy in Mr. Big. Him and Billy Sheehan. Zakk is unreal. He’s also an unreal country player. I have a version of him doing Candle in the Wind where he’s playing piano. Awesome.

Jason Becker played with Cacophony (Marty Friedman) at the age of about 18 and was then hired to do the David Lee Roth gig after his exceptional show of virtuosity in Cacophony. He was replacing Steve Vai but was soon diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Syndrome)which is a degenerative neurological disease that means the person loses muscle movement. He is currently paralysed but is still composing.
Secondly, addressing the Yngwie issue - yes the lyrics are cheesy but the guitar playing is amazing. Only absolute retards can deny that - which a lot of the posters here seem to be. He plays better than any of you retards who seem to be so fucking obsessed with what is fashionable ever will be able to. Fashions come and go which is why people like some of you guys will never be noticed as musicians. For those of you who think that Malmsteen is crap and that Wylde and Gilbert are great - you seem to be ignorant of the fact that both Wylde and Gilbert were inspired to develop their picking techniques through listening to Malmsteen play. Without Malmsteen Wylde and Gilbert would not be the players they are today.

I found my way here, and thought I would say something about the debate. You are both right! Yngwie is an incredible player and he has inspired Paul immensely. At the same time everyone in the industry has a funny Yngwie story to tell. Paul told me a story about Impellitteri, who was working in a studio next to Yngwie’s. A legendary producer named Kevin Elson was working with Yngwie, and Impellitterri let himself into the sound room. He said to Kevin, “My name is Chris, and I think I might be someone you want to work with in the future. I can play all of Yngwie’s solos…” Little did he know, Yngwie was sitting on a sofa behind the door. Yngwie bellowed in his Swedish drawl, “Yes, but can you play any of your own…”
Paul is an amazing player. Everyone has their own styles, he is worth checking out.

Well, I have noticed that the original idiots have not posted anything on this site for some time regarding Yngwie. Probably because they have taken jobs as fucking servants at his home in Miami. You may not approve of his attitude, which is fine, but you cannot knock the mans playing. I have been studying his music for awhile, and it is very difficult to play. Unlike some of this new rubbish that is out. Have you ever seen Slipknots guitar playing transcribed? It’s about as technical in nature as an 80’s techo-pop bass line. As others in this post have indicated, we are not even sure if the audio is legit. If it is Yngwie, I don’t blame him at all for his reaction. As for faggots, I don’t like them either, and I dont mince words when talking about them in public. Since they want to “force” their sickening lifestyle on everyone with the aid of our ultra pc government, and leftist media complex, I really don’t give a shit if someone is offended by my opinion or not. I used to work in the “industry” and I remember back in about ‘95 being at a music industry convention in the catskills, NY and Yngwioe was there giving a demo with his manager. And his manager was talking about Yngwie’s big comeback and how he was about to work on Madonna’s new album. I luaghed a little too loudly and got smoe ugly looks from the stage…and then Yngwie wouldn’t even sign some kids guitar…a total prick with talent..oh well..
Warrnt was also playing that night in th elounge of this resort and it was awesome as some dude kept yelling “Slayer!!!” until Warrant’s singer jumped off the stage and tackled the guy…hahaha…Those 80’s hair metal dudes just lost it so quickly…ah memories..
