It took a long time to find some software suitable for this task. I am now successfully using a heavily modified version of the Lazy Gallery Plugin to create this pixel art section of the site. It cleverly pulls all the images out of a directory, and displays them pretty well. It has some drawbacks though, like no titles or descriptions for each image. I don't think it is quite good enough, but I can't find anything else worth using yet.
